Why did you start writing children’s books?

“I see a need for an increased emphasis on what a quality family life looks like. Much regarding healthy family dynamics has been lost in our fast-paced society, and we need to learn how to address common family problems with practical solutions.”

What was the catalyst that got you started with this?

“I know too many adults who missed out as children on learning about family dynamics. I am a better grandparent than I was a parent. My boys say I did the best I could under the circumstances we had.”

What is unique about the way you write?

“I am intentional in my writing. Subtle messages for adults lie waiting to be discovered in my children’s books: I slide non-intimidating messages under the door, so to speak.”

“By the way, it is also one of the ways I mentor men: I do not just shove truth in their faces, I intertwine the truth with humor and it’s a lot easier to take that way.”

How did you come up with the idea for your book series?

“The 10-book Rupert’s Adventures series was birthed as an idea from my grandchildren.”

So, you started this because of your what grandkids did?

“Not exactly. After my youngest son Matthew died, I needed a healthy outlet to keep me grounded.

My wife and I run our own personal day camp for our five grandchildren. During activites, we teach them to love, honor and respect each other, to value diversity and to influence others through positive character traits.

This series seemed a natural extension of that with a subtle focus on those same family values and positive character traits.”

You took the pen name Lord Fritz III.

“Yes, I chose the pen name Lord Fritz III and as Lord Fritz, I take on the character of a goofy guy with Rupert on his shoulder. “

That seems like an unusual twist for you.

“I like to poke fun at the male role model in my books because I believe being a healthy man is the best way, I can help women and children. “

What would you say is your personal motto?

“I’d say — If I’m not having fun then I will create it.”
